Building AI Agents with Claude

Move from asking AI questions to deploying AI that does the work.

Course Overview

There is a meaningful gap between using an AI assistant and deploying an AI agent. An assistant answers when asked. An agent is given an objective, works through the steps required, uses the tools it needs, and reports back — with appropriate human oversight at the points that matter.

Building AI Agents with Claude is a hands-on four-day programme for teams ready to cross that gap. Participants learn agent design patterns, connect Claude to real systems and data sources, build in the guardrails that make autonomous operation safe, and leave with a working prototype relevant to their own organisation.

This is a build programme, not a briefing. Delegates should come with a genuine process they want to automate and a laptop. Some technical comfort is assumed, though deep software engineering experience is not required.

Key Course Outcomes

Distinguish genuine agent use cases from tasks better served by a simple prompt or a script.
Design agent workflows using established patterns for tool use, task decomposition and orchestration.
Connect Claude to your organisation’s systems and data sources so agents work with real information.
Build guardrails, approval gates and human-in-the-loop checkpoints that make autonomy safe.
Test, evaluate and iterate agent performance before anything touches a live business process.

Programme Structure

A structured, practical curriculum built for the MENA business environment. Select each day to explore the modules in detail.

Day 1: Agent Fundamentals

1
What an Agent Actually Is
  • Assistants, workflows and agents — the distinctions that matter in practice
  • When an agent is the right answer, and the many cases where it is not
  • Realistic capabilities and honest limitations
2
Tool Use: The Core Mechanic
  • How Claude decides which tool to call and when
  • Defining tools clearly enough that the model uses them correctly
  • Hands-on: building your first working tool integration
3
Designing the Task
  • Decomposing a business process into steps an agent can execute
  • Writing instructions that hold up across varied inputs
  • Identifying the failure modes before you build

Day 2: Connecting to Real Systems

1
Connectors and the Model Context Protocol
  • How MCP lets Claude work with external tools and data sources
  • Available connectors and what each makes possible
  • Practical session: connecting an agent to a real data source
2
Working With Your Own Data
  • Grounding agents in organisational knowledge rather than general training data
  • Retrieval patterns and keeping context relevant
  • Handling sensitive data appropriately in agent workflows
3
Multi-Step Orchestration
  • Chaining steps so an agent completes work end to end
  • Managing state across a long-running task
  • Recovering gracefully when a step fails

Day 3: Safety, Guardrails and Evaluation

1
Human-in-the-Loop Design
  • Deciding which actions require approval and which do not
  • Building approval gates before anything irreversible
  • The actions an agent should never take autonomously
2
Guardrails and Failure Handling
  • Constraining scope so an agent cannot drift beyond its remit
  • Prompt injection and why agents connected to external content need protecting
  • Logging, auditability and knowing what your agent actually did
3
Evaluating Agent Performance
  • Building a test set before deployment, not after
  • Measuring reliability across repeated runs rather than one good demo
  • Iterating on the basis of evidence rather than impression

Day 4: Build and Deploy

1
Build Sprint
  • Facilitated build of an agent for your own business process
  • Live troubleshooting with the facilitator
  • Peer review against the design patterns covered
2
From Prototype to Production
  • What changes when an agent moves from demo to daily use
  • Ownership, monitoring and maintenance in practice
  • Cost, scale and performance considerations
3
Roadmap and Governance
  • Prioritising the next agent opportunities across your organisation
  • Building an internal governance framework for agent deployment
  • Presentations: each team demonstrates what they built
